Development of polyoxometalate catalysts for enhanced catalytic performance

Polyoxometalates (POMs) are a fascinating group of anionic metal-oxide clusters with a broad variety of structural properties and various applications in catalysis, medicine, biotechnology, nanotechnology, electrochemistry as well as materials science.

The first section gives an introduction into the history and description of POMs. The second section introduces POMs as versatile metal oxide structures including their classification, molecular structure, synthesis and resulting properties.

The third section provides an overview of catalytic applications using POMs as homogeneous, heterogeneous or biocatalysts covering a large range of catalysis fields.

The final section of this thesis shows a cumulative compilation of original research articles (31) dealing with several catalytic applications using POMs in industrially relevant reactions. Hereby, both homogeneous as well as heterogeneous applications are addressed accompanied by kinetic, electrochemical as well as spectroscopic investigations.
