Ali Elkholey

DAAD-Preis

In the autumn of last year, Ali Elkholey began his Bachelors degree in Nanotechnology here at FAU — and he completed it with distinction, earning an overall grade of 1.1, within the regular study period of six semesters. He was the only Nanotechnology student, and indeed the only student in the Department of Materials Science, to finish so quickly and with such excellence — faster than all domestic peers.

Now in his Master’s programme, he has already achieved 70 ECTS and again holds an average of 1.1. But grades alone do not capture his true brilliance. During his scientific project presentation, on the topic of energy conversion through combined piezoelectric and optoelectronic processes, he demonstrated a depth of understanding that left his professors in awe. His supervisor described it as the best scientific project he had seen in eleven years at FAU.

Beyond his studies, he contributes quietly but profoundly to our international community. Without any formal recognition, he supports fellow students — translating documents, explaining bureaucratic procedures, and helping non-German speakers navigate academic life in Germany. This empathy and initiative make him a true ambassador of intercultural understanding.

And, as if that were not enough, he already participates in research: he has presented two conference posters and published a paper — achievements that promise a bright academic future.
